Go Ask Alice, I think she’ll know
So I’ve been listening to Forum via Podcast lately to keep up with the winging issues and topics back home. A few weeks ago there was a “local food” discussion with a few folks, as well as Alice Waters.
The typical Berkeley line, which I’ve been exposed to en masse thanks to Sally, but there was excellent, excellent point from the Alice (all paraphrased):
Caller: Isn’t Local Food expensive and elitist? Random Panelist: No. Alice: People need to learn to pay more for food. You buy your fancy pants sneakers, cell phones, USB sushi pieces and flat screen tv’s. Food is important, you can fork over the 10% surcharge for quality, jerk.
Something like that.
In fact, I’m going to go the step further and say if people pay 10% to 15% more for food, but eat 30% less, they’ll be putting better whatnot into their bodies and still save money. Yes, Costco John, I’m looking at you.
Hell, if I can swing Rob on this point, I can swing anyone.
