Welcome Before Returning

Two Stories.

Whatnow I’m in a snack shop next to the depature gate at Narita. A woman walks up to the counter, which is adjacent to a fridge with soda.
“I want a coke” “Madam, it is right there” The cashier points to the coke. It says Â¥150. Above the fridge is a sign stating that dollars are accepted as payment but yen will be returned. Guess. “How much is it?” “Â¥150″ “Can I use American Dollars?” “Yes” After the transaction “Why did you give me yen back?”

Counting The very next woman walks up to the counter with a coke. She pulls out a handful of change and drops it on the counter. “How much do I have there?” My jaw drops and I actually squealed. The cashier, however, is unfazed. Despite the large amount of change, she is short Â¥20 for the coke. She walks out of the snack bar to get the extra change, leaving the yen she has all over the counter, and returns two minutes later to complete the transaction.
