A Dreamy Kind of Thing

Monday, August 27th, 2007

So in but two weeks time it will be done. From here to eternity. I wasn’t thinking about that when I went looking for FLCL again, I was just thinking I wanted to watch some nonsensical ninja robot action. And just before that action really gets started, there’s the clip you see [...]

Numbers is (are?) growing on me

Friday, August 24th, 2007

The graphing gripes still hold, but the compartments and the keynote/pages integration are OK. And I use matlab or gnuplot for plotting important whatnot anyway.

I played with the templates, and those are pretty nice too. Color is always appreciated, and the grade chart and budget will come in handy.

I looked at the event planner, though, [...]

Oh Plot

Tuesday, August 21st, 2007

Plot should be great. Fantastic even. But just as the uncanny valley holds true for robots or olsen twins, so it holds for software; almost great is just sort of creepy.

It’s slick as all get out, cocoa this, real time that, but there are 35 things it needs before it crosses that chasm. [...]

Consumption

Monday, August 13th, 2007

I’ve been thinking hard and long about consumption lately. No conclusions.

Sandwich

Saturday, August 11th, 2007

I’m not one for the money shots regarding food, but look at this sandwich.

Homemade zuni chicken, avocado, good ass bread from La Fariné.

Better Together

$311 for a keyboard and mouse. I’ll take a $200 USB hub while I’m at it, thanks. Your nose seems to be running, here’s a five to clean it up. Oh, I’m sorry, here’s a twenty, they’re much softer.

How Open is Open?

Thursday, August 9th, 2007

I seem to have been made. Or maked.

Anyhow, it’s been brought to my attention that even though I’m giving away the schematics, because I place commercial restrictions on the unit it is not really open source hardware.

Hmm.

I’m not sure what to do. I want to be a hip guy loved by the throngs, [...]

Diecimila

Wednesday, August 8th, 2007

The saints of the Arduino project have released the Diecimila, which transcends excellent and must be dubbed “friggin sweet”.

Improvements?

Four pin header expanded to reveal a

3.3 V Reference Reset Pin

Software Reset: no more sticking a needle under the daughterboard to reset USB Overload protection PWM on Pins 3 5 6 as well as the traditional 9 10 11, [...]

Google Missing Search

Wednesday, August 8th, 2007

As much as I love me some endo, my multicomputer multiplatform lifestyle has me hooked on Google Reader. It’s pretty fast, has a clean UI, is ad free (while Newsgator pushes some pretty obnoxious IMVU ads through my content) and works well as on mobile platform, so I can feed read on the BART [...]

Numbers ain’t up to snuff

Tuesday, August 7th, 2007

I want to like numbers. I do. Excel 2004 is weak. Excel 2007 for Windows is nice, but I’ve got to run it virtualized.

It’s very clean. Pretty snappy. But the charts, blech. Few options, and I can’t seem to customize series representation. Let alone multiple Y-axes.

I know that [...]
